Buddha is not a God…
Buddha in Sanskrit is akin to aware, miraculously aware in English, close as we can get in our language.
Responsiveness, perception, movement is Buddha nature in action - this nature is the foundation of mind and this mind is Buddha nature.
To see the Buddha outside your self and not within is delusion.
Seeing your intimate nature is Buddha.
Buddha is not past or future, Buddha mind is now this very moment from moment to moment - in reality there is just a single moment to a Buddha. Buddha can only exist and act in the now.
The historic Buddha was a human being like you and I. He is not a God or ever sought to be worshipped. Buddha recognized suffering in the world and vowed to alleviate it for him self and all others that were constricted by it.
Born a privileged person wanting and lacking nothing material, still there was discontent though. Upon exposure to the cold hard prickly reality of death, old age, sickness and stresses of everyday existence – seeking out the meaning and root of these “negative states” juxtaposed to living a good and contented life. Vowing to search out and reveal the reason for these unsettling things in life... he sought peace of mind.
Searching out teachers, guides and wise men, learned different techniques and practices to try and understand/negate these unsettling thoughts and conditions – learned/gathered various inner/mental/spiritual tools, techniques to gain knowledge, wisdom and guidance from without – but to no avail.
Not able to find satisfaction without and turning his seeking inward - he resolved himself to study his mind diligently and unwaveringly (since that was what was “bothering him”). He was resolved to sit in the posture/form shown to him, a posture much older than he, a posture of quiet and stillness (seated meditation/Dhyana/Chana/Zazen) and discern for himself. Using penetrating insight to glean for himself the way of things and his mind. He had to do it himself… no one could do it for him. He rolled up his sleeves and did work.
Utilizing the teachings before him from other beings of transcendence, distilling all the practices and knowledge from before him - he guided himself, studied himself/his thoughts and perceptions. Got to the root of the problem, what nurtured it – dissected and saw its inner workings, discerned the path to self-liberation from a stressed mind and life.
Putting forth exactly the work needed to achieve the cessation of stress and suffering in the moment. And that work brought him liberation from his oppressive thoughts and mental stresses, practicing and perfecting it, he taught it to others. For 2600 years it flourished - generation to generation, country to country around the world down to me… and now you - if I do not pass it on or at least inform you of its existence would be selfish and lacking wisdom and compassion that this practice endeavors to reveal in us all.
This practice has nothing to do with religion, as you know it – but a realization and practice of the unshakeable reality that supports all of us, no matter what your belief is… for it is not based in belief, but in revealing it for oneself. It is a way to transcend our petty mind and being and resonating with the creator force (beyond names and religions) in all things.
What was gleaned was not learned but intimately realized by reordering his present conditioned/unrealized state of mind to the natural equitable state of mind that we are all born with, perfect and complete right from the beginning, it is our birth right - his, mine and yours.
And because it does not claim to know or worship god or gods it is a practice available to all humans to make their life more efficient and available to the world and the worship of there religion and god(s). It is a way of optimizing our basic human qualities and gifts for the betterment of all in the world… because out of many people we all are just one and the same in the eyes of the creator… no matter what you call him, her or them.
His great compassion, wisdom and subtle power to transmute can be yours… access, practice and cultivate it by taking up the posture of mind and body/meditation… I implore you.
