Poetry & Prose "Speaking the Essence"
***
“Nothing is constant except no-thing.”

Tolerance and equanimity of conditions, combined with sublimation of the ego to the divine principal in this eternal moment, amidst stress, anger, desirous clinging and ignorance of phenomenon - acceptance of what is offered, responding in context.

Be aware of the divine principal in people and things, be it morally perceived as good or bad, it is the lesson of life, reject nothing - learn from everything.

Breath and awareness are divine endowments - be aware, relax, and breathe… it is vital… it is important… it is the Protocol of NOW.

***
In the beginning I blossomed as bud, leaf and branch.
Progressively regressing achieved the trunk, quite naturally returning to the root - borderless expansiveness confirms the singular gradient.
Nothing has changed from the beginning, this is the one constant.
I will blossom no more – how ordinarily miraculous This.
***
If you prefer the sunshine over rain – wasting precious time is your endeavour.
Flame burns bright, radient amidst boundless darkness.
A sharp sword severs purse strings, naked and poverty stricken it seems all one can do is shine.
***
Remember…
Before outside and inside there is nothing.
During outside and inside there is nothing.
After outside and inside there is nothing.
Never forget to remember the forgetting.
***
The Way is not like anything…
Nor is it like nothing, but all the while it is something...

***

All knowledge and intelligence is built on non-knowing and self-discipline of body and mind, all great beings endeavor to master these first.

***

What there is to know
is not what we know…

***

Fear

Ignorance manifests fear, which cultivates greed and anger.

Fear is the mechanism by which the ego castles itself from the world and others.
Fear strives to create a world of "I know" instead a world of “show me the wonder in it all.”

Fear separates us from discovery and union with that which created and supports our breath and being.
Why fear? Can you live forever?

Singular Gradient

The Phenomenal and nominal universe is but a singular gradient –
The unfolding Oneness without beginning and end…
we are extensions of this…
The singular gradient experiencing its “self” experiencing This is the Way.

***

I am…
only when I think I am,
who am I when non- thinking?
***

Gathering …

Tethered firmly between heaven and earth,
five gates flung wide; sixth in repose, four elements remain nameless.

Breathing in, breathing out… coursing through the center, entering the base flowing upwards… maintaining the thread subtly and actively returns
The myriad things to One.

Body mind and spirit converge -
Blatantly unseen It binds the ten thousand things…

In mute eloquence gather and flow between space and time.

***

Beginning, middle and end - not three

Be aware of all thoughts, perceptions, feelings and sensations in your physical body within space and time of moment – discard high, low, this, and that– dwell here indefinitely.
Cut off all figuring and calculations as you penetrate the eternal moment.

Suspended by the golden thread… rooting yourself and body in the firmament.
Realize the breath as it cycles through your center like the ebb and flow of the oceans edge as it comes and goes freely among rocks, hard places and obstructions… flowing steadily to and fro – ceaselessly yielding to objects and forces flowing in, through and around… persistent yet yielding, direct and inevitable as nature and essence dictates.

Realize the great void and expanse of eternity is this exact and only moment.
Act in context to all stimuli – feel and be aware that what is done, said and thought in this eternal moment manifests the past and future within the realm of time and space.
Be aware of This, acting accordingly… nothing is lacking… all is as it should be.

Eternal spring

Flowing-perpetual warmth abiding in solid cool rigor, coaxed gently from its slumber by mind’s unraveling measure, signaling creation to create what can never be created – manifesting what has always been; Its arrival inherent in its departure, departure inherent in its arrival.
So IT begins… Rejuvenating sunsets, reviving the heavens, beckoning birds, awakening soil and stirring seeds with infinite potential.
A child’s bright face uncovered and beaming.
Wandering, rain visited grasses, numberless purple, white and yellow crocus demanding attention.
Trees rejoicing in warm gentle breezes – windows flung open in welcome obedience to
time worn promises of renewal to that which was never old.
Unabashed seduction of mind and body with whisperings of reconciliation: titillating with the vow to be – even though it never was.
This continuum – this spring buoyantly shuttles consciousness in relentless currents of replenishment.
Swirling eddies of serene reflection momentarily divert my passage – humbly accommodating my seeing, feeling and contemplation of its offerings.
Gently resuming it’s meandering, presenting a kaleidoscope of opportunities to marvel at – to revel in, never failing to surpass its last offering.
Resistance is futile against its relentless torrent of sublime experience and unfathomable giving.
And to those whose spirits lie suspended in hibernation… relax your brow, unclench your teeth and let loosen your grip – effortlessly dissolve yourself in Spring’s deepening caress.

Next – the Future

Vast Functioning…

Pervading everywhere – functioning with out activity.
Thinking verifies its presence – but not its purest function.
Its presence inherent in activity – activity not inherent in its presence.
It penetrates with out intrusion.
It captures with out striving.
It intimately informs when accessed.
It is ever intimate in its knowledge.
Its sword is non-thing – compassion its strength.
It is divided but not separated.
It sees without looking.
It feels without touching.
The green pine tree is colorless: white snow is not white.
The fish swims not-knowing It – a bird flies because of It.

What there is to know is not what you know.
How to know more than you know?
Know non-knowing.

Essence embraced…

Saturating multiple functions – it’s flowing through cuts into One.

Lift the hand lower the hand – stillness in motion.
Reach to grab it – there it is… Open the hand – here it is.

Serenely intense, suspending all activity – Pure and vibrant –
fully manifest it in this.
Embrace the Vital Essence – in an instant utter stillness.

Tear up the sail…

Leaving the vessel to wander the currants –
Unencumbered by the whim of another
Freedom peace and tranquility masters the vessel.
Not knowing where it will be led
Not knowing what waits beyond the horizon,
Just drifting adventurous in the dawn.
Appreciating twilight as swells lift and lower this vessel until the drifting has ceased.
Attention! Attention! The ceaseless dawn…

***

Intimate absorption –
Cutting me away.
One constant thing.

***

Moving forward…
Take the backwards step From the place of knowing.

Lucidly going forth,
Stillness gathers and receives –
Vast functioning unobstructed.

YO! Are you there?

Yup – don’t you see…
Rays of morning sunlight slanting through the blinds.
The flower in the vase.
Yup – don’t you feel…
The scent of a magnolia blossom.
The caress of the one you love and who loves you.
The throb-throb-throbbing in my chest
My mind and body during vigorous exertion…
The weight of my boots – the heft of my leather jacket.
Yeah! I am here, you still there?
Yup – don’t you see…
Thoughts of my doings –
Thoughts of my sayings –
Doing of my thoughts –
Doing of my sayings.
The face of my friends
The face of my dog,
My not comfortable shoes – my not un-comfortable bed.
Yup… still here. You there?

The Way

Seeing no-thing with the eyeball being wholly absorbed.

The natural path is natural –
Many streams find the ocean.

Senses flow – Emotions color – Essence gathers.

Radiant is the Vital Essence–
Form flow through the Center.

Action finds its way – make no effort – follow no plan.
In non-doing the Way is done.

Coffee cup…

A mute white cylinder with shaded gradients, curves, texture and lines
Just sitting in its cup-ness, solid smug and short – is the cavity its secret – so simple is its perfection.
The handle brilliant, complete in itself and lacking nothing.

Maybe…

The opening and the handle is the answer – multiple facts and functions cooperating to be coffee cup.
Empty or full, is the function absolute; is its existence negligible as long as it performs its task?

Suppose…

The cup fell and broke – would it still be a cup?
is the tangible solid the cup
or could it be the implied use of its potential?

It seems to be …

A coffee cup just sitting there on the table with other cups,
so alike yet different – identical and unique.

Or?

Is it just a cup holding your liquid refreshment?

Motionless gathering in the dark

A single step fills the darkness...
Serene intensity of intent without motive or preference,
No-thing quietly received.

The six gates agape, ten thousand things take their place and position – Vast function evident.

Entering a dark room it is glaringly bright,
Turn on the light and it is dimmed, augmented and narrowed.

Intimately maximize the volume of your skin… it is almost done.

Radiant darkness

The bright moon silently illuminates mountains and rivers.

Profound darkness makes the world One – the singular flame spherically luminous at eternity’s borderless center.

Clear and lucid straight to the bottom – ripples are distinct and clearly seen.

Serenely intense is the clear sky -
Silent peal of thunder…
Storm clouds gather and disperse without incident.

***

The Way…

The acquainted is distant,
The extraordinary is familiar,
Confusion does not confound -
simultaneously
upright and tasting the sky.

Intent on the clear sky –
Clouds gather and disperse,
All the while… moonshine.

Realizing the flames,

Vital Essence

Fathomless unmitigated purity, the bottom is clearly seen.
It’s diametric opposite, shallow un-alleviated murkiness...
The bottom is nowhere in sight.

Turbidity increases as stirrings increase, reaction supplants action… the constant principal is interrupted and eclipsed.

Resilience reflects the great functioning purified and dynamically still –
All points of contact are bright, lucid and enlightening.
Phenomena are recognized as they appear - place and function evident.

Activities begin within mind, if nothing is initiated by mind nothing will manifest – if it has characteristics it is not the Way.

Inhale, open up, release and extend – pure Vital Essence flowing up and radiating through the center circumvents all obstructions.

Serenely intense, invigorating, singular, harmonious, silent, free flowing, reposing, and exclusively inclusive – there is nothing above it, yet its not above anything, meeting things where they are – unequaled it pervades everywhere and nowhere simultaneously.

Ignorance dominates.

Loving kindness

One who is skilled in goodness, who knows the path of peace:
Let them be able and upright, Straightforward and gentle in speech.
Humble and not conceited, Contented and easily satisfied.
Unburdened with duties and frugal in their ways.
Peaceful, calm, wise and skillful, Not proud and demanding in nature.
Let them not do the slightest thing that the wise would later reprove.

Wishing:
In gladness and in safety, may all beings be at ease.
Whatever living beings there may be; whether they are weak or strong, omitting none, the great or the mighty, medium, short or small, the seen and the unseen, those living near and far away, those born and to-be-born, may all beings be at ease!

Let none deceive another, or despise any being in any state.
Let none through anger or ill-will wish harm upon another.
Even as a mother protects with her life her only child, so with a boundless heart should one cherish all living beings.
Radiating kindness over the entire world spreading upwards to the skies, And downwards to the depths; outwards and unbounded, freed from hatred and ill-will.

This is said to be the sublime abiding:
Whether standing or walking, seated or lying down free from drowsiness, One should sustain this recollection.

By not holding to fixed views, the pure-hearted one, having clarity of vision, Being freed from all sense desires, is not subject to the winds of the world.
Four Fold Noble Truths

Basically - Every day life consists of stresses and unpleasant conditions, people and things or "suffering/sickness/dis-ease” in varying forms and degrees.

Potentially Suffering/stress exists in every moment of life.
They have an origin.
They have an end.
There is a way to end them.

The mechanism for ending or cessation is in the practice of self-discipline, concentration, and wisdom.

The first truth: in life there is suffering.
All human beings are subject to distress. Things most of the time do not manifest as we want them to. Suffering is inherent in everything within our existence; it may not reveal itself immediately… but its there.

It might seem negative for the Buddha to say that in life there is suffering.
The Buddha was a doctor of the mind and human condition; he diagnosed the fundamental problem to a contented life and declared it: Everyday unrealized life involves suffering.
As a doctor vows to heal the infirm, he determined that a cure exists, and prescribed the appropriate treatment: complete understanding and diligent pure practice.

Suffering can be defined in the context of this offering “as life never being completely satisfactory”. We feel some degree of physical or mental discomfort. Other times we all undergo genuine suffering. We undergo the experience of disease and illness. If we live long enough we will get old and worn out, various parts will quit, our bodies will fail us. And death knows where we are at all times…

The second truth: Suffering is caused.
This concept of “mine” leads to selfishness, which in turn results in our desirous clinging for what we do not posses or more of what we already have. Greed and anger arise because we are ignorant and do not know that desirous clinging leads to more desirous clinging.

The root of suffering is ignorance driven anger and greed with an unhealthy dose of fear as the catalyst. Ignorance is the lack of understanding that all things apprehend-able by our six senses are impermanent and void of an everlasting individual identity or permanence. Greed is craving or desirous clinging and attachment for material things and/or pleasant experiences as a necessity to “good” life.

Greed is a natural part of our unrealized being and its desirous clinging and attachments for things, people, life, the list is endless... This is so because we are ignorant/unaware, and in our unawareness we do not see things as they purely are. We do not truly understand that everyday unrealized life is wrought with the potential for suffering. Suffering/stress is what we think we need and covet, versus what is needed and right there in front of us.

Not getting what we want, we become annoyed. We lose what we have, we feel resentful. Sometimes we are unable to be with people we like, we become irritated or agitated. These are all varying forms or degrees of anger. Anger has its roots in the discriminatory and mistaken idea that “I am an individual” separate and distinct from others and the world, that we are self contained, we think what we know is what there is to know, that I need to protect my ideas and possessions; that I need to protect who I think I am as a individual separate entity in the world.

Ignorance/unawareness leads us to think in terms of gain or loss, plus and minus: that I need to protect what is mine, whether it is a thing, an idea etc… suffering/stress is caused by our own greed and anger that stems from our unawareness/ignorance. There is a way to end suffering/stress…

The third truth: Suffering can end. There is freedom from suffering/stress.
By eliminating selfishness, greed and attachments suffering ceases, and the state of a constant peace in mind and being is attained. In this state, there is no thought of “me” or “mine,” and there is no more greed, anger, and ignorance active in the immediate moment. There is peace, love, wisdom, and a level of happiness and contentment that is beyond words to fully describe.

The fourth truth: Eightfold path. Path leading to cessation of suffering/stress. Middle way.
The way to end suffering/stress is discipline, concentration, and wisdom.

Discipline - Ethical conduct - speech, action, livelihood
Concentration - Mental discipline - effort, attentiveness, concentration
Wisdom - Spiritual penetration - understanding, thought

Eight fold path

1. Complete or right view/understanding –This understanding or “penetration” is the highest wisdom that sees fundamental reality of all phenomena and noumenal in the mental and physical realms thus reflecting on them as they are. “Penetration is seeing into a thing, condition or being in its true essence and nature, without the function of label or name”. This penetration, view, understanding is manifested when the mind is free from discursive input based on dualistic conditioning and opinions – this penetration is developed more efficiently through sitting meditation.

2. Complete or right thought/mindedness/perceptions - Complete thought is derived from complete penetration/understanding, and thoughts initiated by this “penetration” reflecting selflessness, detachment, non-violence, un-conditioned love and the offering of these thoughts to all manifestations of the great emptiness/singular gradient/universe that is our bodies and life.

3. Complete or right speech/communication – Complete speech and communication means being aware of and abstaining from all forms of harmful and superfluous speech/communications. Utilize words/communications that are friendly and benevolent, pleasant, gentle, meaningful and useful to self and other. Communicate/speak at the right time and place, if something useful cannot be communicated then a penetrating silence focused on the moment should be diligently maintained. Complete communication/speech means abstaining from; lies, backbiting, slander and talk that manifests hatred, enmity, and disunity/disharmony among individuals or groups of people. Abstaining from harsh, rude, impolite, malicious, abusive language, gossip and useless babble.

4. Complete or right behavior/action – states that our actions bring about reactions, and so we should strive to be honorable and peaceful in conduct. We should endeavor to abstain from killing with mind and body, stealing, dishonest dealings, sexual intercourse based on ignorance of self and other. To help foster a peaceful and honorable way of life in others, through action and example with our life.

5. Complete or right livelihood – Means making or generating a living from activities that does not create harm to any being.

6. Complete or right effort – means to seek out, develop and refine complete and just states of mind and being inherently present in the human mind and condition with an energetic will and intention - to recognize and prevent/modulate self-serving states of mind. To cause to raise complete compassionate states of mind not yet manifested.

7. Complete or right mindfulness, attentiveness – Is diligent attention, awareness and mindfulness applied to the activities of the body, mind and being – constantly strive to be intimately aware and attentive to things, concepts, thoughts, sensations and feelings.

8. Complete or right concentration – This is mental discipline utilizing unwavering mental focus for an extended period of time in the eternal moment – sitting meditation is the entrance to these realms.

These are the complete or right truths of the noble way/path to the cessation of personal stress/suffering in the moment – this is the goal of the “eightfold path” it is the only thing “the great compassionate awakened being” realized and champions.
Buddha is not a God…

Buddha in Sanskrit is akin to aware, miraculously aware in English, close as we can get in our language.
Responsiveness, perception, movement is Buddha nature in action - this nature is the foundation of mind and this mind is Buddha nature.
To see the Buddha outside your self and not within is delusion.
Seeing your intimate nature is Buddha.
Buddha is not past or future, Buddha mind is now this very moment from moment to moment - in reality there is just a single moment to a Buddha. Buddha can only exist and act in the now.

The historic Buddha was a human being like you and I. He is not a God or ever sought to be worshipped. Buddha recognized suffering in the world and vowed to alleviate it for him self and all others that were constricted by it.

Born a privileged person wanting and lacking nothing material, still there was discontent though. Upon exposure to the cold hard prickly reality of death, old age, sickness and stresses of everyday existence – seeking out the meaning and root of these “negative states” juxtaposed to living a good and contented life. Vowing to search out and reveal the reason for these unsettling things in life... he sought peace of mind.

Searching out teachers, guides and wise men, learned different techniques and practices to try and understand/negate these unsettling thoughts and conditions – learned/gathered various inner/mental/spiritual tools, techniques to gain knowledge, wisdom and guidance from without – but to no avail.

Not able to find satisfaction without and turning his seeking inward - he resolved himself to study his mind diligently and unwaveringly (since that was what was “bothering him”). He was resolved to sit in the posture/form shown to him, a posture much older than he, a posture of quiet and stillness (seated meditation/Dhyana/Chana/Zazen) and discern for himself. Using penetrating insight to glean for himself the way of things and his mind. He had to do it himself… no one could do it for him. He rolled up his sleeves and did work.

Utilizing the teachings before him from other beings of transcendence, distilling all the practices and knowledge from before him - he guided himself, studied himself/his thoughts and perceptions. Got to the root of the problem, what nurtured it – dissected and saw its inner workings, discerned the path to self-liberation from a stressed mind and life.
Putting forth exactly the work needed to achieve the cessation of stress and suffering in the moment. And that work brought him liberation from his oppressive thoughts and mental stresses, practicing and perfecting it, he taught it to others. For 2600 years it flourished - generation to generation, country to country around the world down to me… and now you - if I do not pass it on or at least inform you of its existence would be selfish and lacking wisdom and compassion that this practice endeavors to reveal in us all.

This practice has nothing to do with religion, as you know it – but a realization and practice of the unshakeable reality that supports all of us, no matter what your belief is… for it is not based in belief, but in revealing it for oneself. It is a way to transcend our petty mind and being and resonating with the creator force (beyond names and religions) in all things.

What was gleaned was not learned but intimately realized by reordering his present conditioned/unrealized state of mind to the natural equitable state of mind that we are all born with, perfect and complete right from the beginning, it is our birth right - his, mine and yours.

And because it does not claim to know or worship god or gods it is a practice available to all humans to make their life more efficient and available to the world and the worship of there religion and god(s). It is a way of optimizing our basic human qualities and gifts for the betterment of all in the world… because out of many people we all are just one and the same in the eyes of the creator… no matter what you call him, her or them.

His great compassion, wisdom and subtle power to transmute can be yours… access, practice and cultivate it by taking up the posture of mind and body/meditation… I implore you.
Insight
Insight is concentrated inner vision penetrating the image of oneself, mentally seeing through the ego/life conditioning – realizing the fundamental of our life – diligently manifesting “Vital Essence” on a moment-to-moment basis (Vital Essence is not based in analysis or calculations).

Relentlessly committed to uncover the “Prime Principal” with a penetrating investigative spirit is the fuel that powers the engine of insight. Non-attainable attainmentMeditative absorption and discipline/positive self-restraint of body and mind. Effortless continuous awareness, concentration and insight penetrating the life conditioning to see what is real/essential or most important in situations – looking within determined to clarify and acquire non-understanding of our deepest intention in relation to phenomena and events – cutting through attachments to modes of thought as material or a concrete thing.

Wisdom
Realization, access and function of the spirit of the breath to mind and body.
Wisdom is penetration to the nature of each phenomenal event/situation on a moment-to-moment basis with non-discursive knowledge of fundamental reality – universal sameness – the true nature of things.

Wisdom is not acquired, it is our inalienable right from birth – it is an endowment forever available to us, waiting for our uncovering of the Vital Essence and intuitive awareness.

Wisdom of the “Pure principal/Vital Essence” cuts through all confusion, complications and entanglements of ignorance – conquering all doubt and confusion.

Wisdom realizes the phenomenal sameness of all things/beings and the insubstantiality of class distinctions. Just internally witness silently all phenomena – this is the precursor to wisdom activity or actualization of the Great Compassion in this life.

Non-attainable attainment
Meditative absorption and discipline/positive self-restraint of body and mind. Effortless continuous awareness, concentration and insight penetrating life conditioning to see what is real/essential or most important in situations – looking within determined to clarify and acquire non-understanding/wisdom of our deepest intention in relation to phenomena and events – cutting through attachments to modes of thought as material or a concrete thing.

Practice to perfect equally these qualities of being;
1. Wisdom/insight – Personal intimate insight into the nature of reality through meditation/transcendental apperception, observation and contemplation of our mind, body, way of being and the world we live in.
2. Mental & physical discipline – Meditation, effort, attentiveness, concentration, patience, endurance, equanimity.
3. Conduct – Intention, thought, speech, action and livelihood.
Stress/suffering – Pressure, strain; constraining force or influence.
A state of bodily or mental tension resulting from factors that tends to alter an existent equilibrium.
A physical, chemical, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension, and is a large factor in disease causation.

Stress in its myriad forms is one hurdle to peace, contentment and well being of mind and body – our “just being”. Stress caused by life as it is – our daily struggle to just be.

Birth, old age, sickness, death, unpleasant people and conditions, separation from loved ones and pleasant conditions, not getting what you desire, grief, distress – all forms of daily physical and mental suffering and pain are classified as “ordinary stress” of day-to-day living.

Stress caused by conditioned states of comfort – thoughts of what relationships(s) to the world should be – our conditioned “being”, “individuality” or “I”.

Stress caused by change in conflict with our attachments and desirous clinging to mental and physical phenomena and states. Pleasant and happy feelings and conditions are not permanent, not forever - It will /must change… that is the definition of life – constant change and flux.
When life manifests this basic law of the universe – if we are not in accord/resonant with it, mental pain and stress is our life, this can hinder the flow of energy or Vital Essence available to mind and body facilitating dis-ease in the body and mind.

Conditioned mental states – our individuality and consciousness is a combination of physical and mental energies that are constantly changing. Things we see, hear, taste, feel, think and perceive are taken as “real/things that are permanent and unchanging” so we cling to those memories of things past, when dealing with the present moment – which is always new, fresh and ever changing – as if it will behave as in the past. Stress manifests in the self when we fail or encounter great difficulty in reconciling the moment with our past clinging and desires and future wantings.

The seed of stress… Fear nurtured desirous clinging. Desirous clinging to what we think life is or should be, desirous clinging to the need for permanence of the “good and pleasurable things” in life and the perceived reality of not gaining it or loosing it – are the seeds of an un-peaceful mind and a life of conflict wrought with and driven by fear, mental and physical anguish if the nature of things and its processes are not intimately realized and actualized. Not realizing the nature of life intimately for your self is the cause of pain, suffering and separation in life.

Understanding of this truth is not the remedy – the true traveler and practitioner of life must practice to stop, discard, and eliminate fear driven desirous clinging on a moment-to-moment basis and practice the application of the “prime principal” and its realizations.Cessation of desirous clinging (Mobilizing Vital Essence)Intimate realization of the “Prime principal or Vital Essence” through sitting meditation will penetrate, illuminate, clarify and enable the cessation of fear driven desirous clinging operating in our life when diligently applied in the moment.

Realizing the “Constant Way, Pure Principal, Vital Essence” in all things is true reality – absolute truth, which is beyond duality and relativity. The absolute non-knowing that there is no-thing absolute “in” the universe only the universe itself – this is the power of sitting “the non-knowledge and application of un-conditioned supreme wisdom”.
Relaxation

Relax – To become/make less tense, severe or stringent or rigid: slacken. To make soft or enervated, to relieve from tension, to become inactive and lengthen, to cast off social restraint, nervous tension or anxiety, to attain equilibrium.

Relaxation – The act of relaxing or state of being relaxed. The lengthening that characterizes inactive muscles fibers or muscles

Relaxed – Set or being at rest or at ease.

Initially the body must be aligned so the pull of gravity is engaging the mass of the body in a manner that allows the body to rest in itself without strain or tension – if this cannot be achieved the body cannot be completely relaxed in the posture of meditation – and if the body is not relaxed the mind cannot relax, awareness and Vital Essence cannot flow and pervade.

The principle that keeps a skyscraper standing - a resilient structure in precise alignment with the pull of gravity for support and stabilization, completely surrendering its mass to the pull of gravity through its precisely constructed aligned internal frame and stressed members.
If you could drop a plumb line (a long string with a heavy weight on one end) from the center of its roof to the center of its foundation it would line up with the center of the earth within millimeters. This principal is what is in effect when “sitting” with an aligned body in such away that there is minimal stress on the skeletal and musculature of the body – this initiates and facilitates the process of mind and body entering a state of relaxation, aligned with gravity not against it.

In general out side of mental “holding” from un-resolved mental “issues” - when our body is out of alignment with gravity, the body compensates with muscular tension to try and maintain an upright position, in sitting the primary purpose (outside of mental issues) of muscular tension is to balance out or negate the constant downward pull of gravity. A common issue with beginning mediators is tension and discomfort in the neck and/or the upper back region – usually (if there is not a pre-existing injury) the spine is not engaged, the head is inclined or the trunk/torso is inclined to the front or the side of the central axis of alignment running through the body and inline with the pull of gravity.

“When the body moves the mind moves”

The half lotus posture has a tendency to misalign the body of beginners who try this posture without knowing how to compensate with a cushion. If you are not flexible enough in the hips in general, the knee of the leg with the foot resting on the thigh will be elevated above the other making the body work/mind move to keep itself upright, putting the hips in a non-neutral positin relative to the spine, or compensating by resting the knee on the mat and having the body again having to compensate misaligning the spine in a s-curved (in the left right plane) nature -true relaxation cannot be achieved this way. One may mentally accept this and come to be comfortable with the misaligned posture, which is a achievment in itself - but in order to penetrate the levels of meditation available through seated meditation proper posture and alignment is paramount.

To be truly relaxed and in pristine awareness and transcendental apperception, the mind must be tranquil and without movement initially. This "state" will be elusive to the beginners mind/practice and difficult to be realized if it is compensating with muscle activity in regards to misalignment of the body with gravity. Within this misalignment the muscles responsible for keeping the head from toppling forward, sideways or even backwards have to contract and maintain tension to counteract the pull of gravity, hold this position long enough and the whole body gets tense and the mind is no longer at rest because it has to constantly monitor the muscles doing the holding/contracting/tensing… and because the body as a whole is interdependent on its parts being in equilibrium in order to manifest relaxation - if the body is holding/contracted and tensed the mind is holding/contracted and tensed, pure awareness is then tinted by the existing condition – true relaxation is nowhere in sight.

Gravity is one of the fundamental forces here on earth and within the singular gradient/universe, it is so powerful and fundamental in fact it can even bend light if the right conditions exist – without gravity our immune systems are suppressed, our muscles and bones begin to atrophy... gravity plays an important role in the health and wellbeing of the body, and the mind is affected by the body and the reverse is applicable also. Gravity in general is a neutral force when things and our bodies are in harmony with it – when not in harmony it is considered negative or positive depending on the structure or direction of travel with it, against it or across it.

Relaxation is a natural derivative of alignment and resiliency, without alignment and resiliency of body and mind, relaxation cannot be realized. Extreme rigidity in “Sitting” manifests extreme tension in the mind and musculature – effectively lessoning awareness of the sensations and feelings of the body, emotions and environment… the antithesis of meditation. The basic/fundamental tool brought to bear in the moment of meditation is keen serenely intense "360 degrees" awareness in the many planes of our excistance. This awareness is used to penetrate, vivisect and examine phenomena and experiences physically and mentally within the body and environment.

Persistent tension in the body diminishes the range of experiences available to awareness, subsequently meditation becomes inefficient on this level of the process, Vital Essence becomes stagnant and cannot move freely within the body – relaxation and awareness is diminished.

Relaxation is surrendering the mass of the body to the unseen forces of gravity/nature/singular gradient/universe that manifested it, and sustains it – we enter in accord with the primal principal operating in everything, everywhere all the time thus freeing our awareness to see what has been in front of us all along, not preoccupied or influenced by body or mental "tensions"in the pervading the moment.

“ Relax - broaden and make expansive your awareness, turn up the volume of your skin and it is almost done”.
Beginning, middle and end - not three...

Cut off all figuring and calculations as you penetrate and enter the eternal moment.

Be aware of all thoughts, perceptions, feelings and sensations in your physical body within space and time of this infite eternal moment – discard high and low, this and that, before and after, good and bad and the mechanism that generates these dualities... dwell here indefinitely.

Standing or sitting the golden thread is tenuous and subetly active…
Feel the weight and rootedness of the body in the pull of gravity...
Strive to be light on top and rooted at the base, maintain an active "center".

Realize the pure presence of breath as it cycles through your center like the ebb and flow of the oceans edge as it comes and goes freely among rocks, hard places and obstructions… flowing steadily to and fro – ceaselessly yielding to objects and forces... flowing in, through and around… persistent yet yielding, direct and inevitable as context, nature and essence dictates.

Realize the great void and expanse of eternity is this exact and only moment - pay attention, strive to be aware, breathe and relax...

Act in context to all stimuli – feel, understand and be aware that what is done, said and thought in this eternal moment will manifest the past and future within the realm of time and space.

Be aware of This, acting accordingly… nothing is lacking… all is as it should be.
Love.

The universe - a singular gradient manifested from Love, by Love and in Love.
Non-dual Divine Love is the actualization of the singular gradient experiencing itself.
Love is sacred selfless activity in the mundane realm of space and time of this eternal moment.

Love is the name of the singular gradient.
Love is the beginning, Love is the continuation and Love is the ending…

When the hard work is done and there is no-thing , abiding there softly is beginning-less Love.

Love for Love’s sake is supreme.
It is unconstricted and boundless.
It is sublime, beautiful and without peer.
It brings peace and harmony.
It is the joy of the lover and bliss to the beloved.

Love based on selfishness, personal gain and egoism is constrictive, incomplete, delusional, ignorant, cancerous… the antithesis to absolute singular Love.

Peace and harmony is an expression of selfless Love utilized completely by a selfless aware and alert mind, attentive spirit and relaxed capable body for the benefit of humanity and it’s supporting modalities.

Love knows no business.
Love knows no bargains.
Love knows no compromise.

Love never expects anything in return; Love only knows pure giving of self and pure receiving of other – a continuous infinitely spiraling process that expects neither giving nor receiving.

Love supports and has power yet undermines and weakens, it binds yet actively liberates, its adamantine yet flows freely - manifest it from beyond thought and you will always be appropriate and timely... always.

Divine Love manifested through being does not wait for a “thank you” or “please” – Such a singular Love is the pinnacle, cannot be increased or decreased, it is the Way of the singular gradient experiencing itself… let it rain over you, flow into and through our beings, cleansing it of them and us, nourishing and maintaining for self and other in This.... for we are not two.
Three poisons

As human beings with the power of divine choice, we can be subject to unproductive habits.

The most serious and detrimental ones being greed, anger and ignorance. These unproductive habits stem from our emotional desire driven attachments to the concept of having an individual and permanent self in conjunction with a lack of understanding of humanities true place in the universe and the relationships with all others who inhabit the universe with us. This lack of understanding can be called spiritual ignorance of the way of things and phenomenon — having wrong views and incomplete knowledge, lacking correct/complete transcendental and mundane perceptions usually rooted in fear driven or conditioned greed, anger and spritual ignorance.

Ignorance manifests fear and fear is the catalyst that manifests/precedes anger and greed - fear is the catalyst that nurtures greed and anger as it spews forth through our being because we do not fully understand... our view is incomplete and lacking penetrating insight to inform it - being ignorant/uninformed of true reality and the singular aspect inherent in all things animate and inanimate. We are attached to self-importance, our conditioned view of who we are, to the conditioned concept of "I and body".

Greed, desirous clinging or craving, arises from the mistaken idea that we can obtain and hold on to possessions, to ideas, and even to other people.
Greed arises from selfishness, from the misconception that our bodies are who we are. Our greed and attachments tie us to perpetual unhappiness in varying degrees. Desirous clinging or craving leads us to manifest harmful behavior, detrimentally affecting the world and its modalities that support all life and us.

Because of greed, we become angry at what others have, or if they acquire something we want and desire. Anger so often arises when our greed, desirous clinging or craving is unrestrained; because of ignorance of the way things are and operate. Greed gives rise to anger when we do not get what we want and desire, or because others reject our ideas or obtain what we had wanted for ourselves - or when what we have or desire is taken from us, or those we love are lost to us.

The ways that greed and attachments can overwhelm and eclipse our intrinsically complete self thus leading us to anger are endless. The perceived pain and loss increases our separation form the real, as a consequence, our suffering has the momentum to be infinite… and by extension we cause others to suffer also.

Anger in all its forms, ranging from frustration to resentment, animosity, and even cruelty, is one of our greatest problems in this day and age of “shock and awe”. Anger arises before we even realize what is happening. Somebody says or does something and, in a flash, we are angry. Why do we so easily become angry?

When "my" conditioned concept of "I and body" is threatened and challenged, "I and body" very often will strike out in defense with anger and violence overtly and/or covertly, mentally and/or physically - trying to protect and defend that which is finite, ignorant of the divine sacred essence that is common in all of us... for we all breathe not of our own choosing and will.

How can we penetrate and eliminate the three poisons?
Letting go and giving offsets greed.
Patience, tolerance and loving-kindness dissapates and aborts anger while reconciling hatred with Prajna / Transcendental apperception/Wisdom, which is the stuff of our true nature which counters and dispels ignorance.

Maha-Prajna-Paramita-heart-sutra

Maha – Great.
Prajna – Perpetual intuitive Insight. Wisdom. Perfect/complete understanding. Transcendental apperception, non-discursive wisdom that is devoid of subject/object dualism in apprehension of fundamental reality.
Paramita – Perfection in virtue. “crossing to the other shore”, “bridge to the other shore” – transcending mundane delusion, stress and personal suffering through the practice and perfection of giving, self discipline, patience, energetic progress, meditation and wisdom.
Heart – The essential or most vital part of something, the innermost part: Center.
Sutra – Awakened Teachings.

Maha prajna paramita heart sutra “The great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality -awakened teaching”.
This great teaching, unsurpassable by any other teachings is not based in belief, this teaching at its heart invites you to penetrate, realize, see, feel, know/understand and act accordingly for yourself – you are the revealer of this subtle teaching and way of reality, you realize it in meditation and contemplation, you practice and manifest it and the world benefits, and if the world benefits you benefit… you are the world and the world is you – this is how change is manifested, it begins within you, flows through you perpetually continuing its continuation. The singular gradient beckons you to come and see it as it is for yourself.

The function of your life is seeing, feeling, realizing and living through existence with the faculties and functions at your command. Through the singular eye, awareness/attention dualistic and non-dualistic knowledge is gleaned, wisdom is manifest, science is realized, understanding is deepened… your life is based on wisdom driven understanding and knowledge, not believing what others do as tradition – investigate it and reveal it yourself, only you can truly realize it.

Seeing and intimately feeling for your self dispels all delusion, belief has no function in This.

The following condensed “translation” and commentary is my offering to all beings – I attempt to clarify this great teaching for all suffering/stressed beings who read/embrace it.

This translation and commentary is based in intellectual, spiritual and physical understanding - from my realization of it on the sitting cushion, in activity, application and self-verification in situations and with others.

This endeavor seeks to take this seed of wisdom from the mystical and arcane, to plant and cultivate it - nurture it with sitting meditation and attention till it bears the sweet fruit of peace, power and clarity in the eternal moment - to reveal it in the mundane for the contentment of self and other.

The essence and application of this sublime and subtle teaching is the foundation that all awakened practices are built on - not the name or form of the vehicle it is conveyed in but the function/action or more appropriately the dynamic non-action, this cannot be equated with doing nothing… but it is the ultimate doing, the active doing of non-thing within space and time of the moment, the actualization of supreme universal truth and potentiality.

This sutra or awakened teaching is the inalienable right and privilege of every human being and the activity of all awakened beings past present and future. All enlightened teachings of the highest compassion, power and equanimity emanate from and have their roots in the essence of this teaching/realization… not the vehicle but the vital essence it reveals and transports – its true meaning and essence is beyond all words and letters… but to try is better than not to try, so I attempt to point directly to it so you may investigate it, realize it, practice and apply it in your life for the benefit of self and other, let it strike a resonant chord in you.

Realize and “get it” then practice and check it out and verify it for yourself, first in your sitting/meditation then take it with you in your moment-to-moment goings and comings. Buddha's name be praised.

Maha-Prajna-Paramita-heart-sutra.

The great compassionate awakened being that hears, sees and feels the suffering of the world, was sitting in the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality, clearly seeing emptiness of the five elements of humanity, thus completely penetrating and understanding - relieving stress, misfortune and pain.

Oh Seeker, form is no other than emptiness, emptiness no other than form.

Form is exactly emptiness, emptiness exactly form. Sensation, conception, discrimination, awareness are likewise like this.not stained/defiled, not pure/immaculate, with out loss/decreasing, without gain/increasing.

So in emptiness there is no form; no sensation, conception, discrimination, awareness; no eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind; no color, sound, smell, taste, touch, phenomena; no realm of sight, no realm of consciousness, no ignorance and no end to ignorance, no old age and death and no end to old age and death, no suffering, no cause of suffering, no extinguishing, no path, no wisdom, and no gain. No attainment and no gain and thus the great awakened beings lives in the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality with no hindrance in the mind therefore no fear. Far beyond deluded thoughts; this is the peaceful liberation from delusion.

All past, present and future enlightened awakened ones live in the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality, and therefore arrive at complete true universal enlightenment.

Therefore know the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality is the great invocation, the vivid invocation/incantation, the best invocation/incantation, the unsurpassable invocation. It completely clears all pain. This is the truth, not a lie. So set forth the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality invocation, set forth this invocation/incantation, and say, Gone! Gone! Gone all the way over! All beings gone to the other side! Enlightenment! yay! hallelujah! Woo Hoo!

The great compassionate awakened being that hears, sees and feels the suffering of the world, When the stress of everyday life and existence is too much to bear and understand, it hinders a full contented life for self and other, a remedy must be found to bring things and beings to harmony and contentment. When this suffering is experienced, naturally we want to seek a remedy – this “seeker” is “the great compassionate awakened being that hears, sees and feels the suffering of the world” this being is present in all of us and depending on our state of grace, conditioning and karma it endeavors to cure this dis-ease of mind and being, by extension your life, my life, all life… for they are not three.

was sitting in the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality, In context of this teaching this “Great being” searched for the “sufferer” - seeking the cause of this dis-ease and discontentedness, it searched the body and mind looking for the “sufferer”. How did this “being” search for the sufferer? What tool did the “Great being” use?

Sitting in – “Sitting in” is the posture of mind and body associated with seated meditation, Dhyna/Chan na/Zazen.

The great flowing vital essence of Perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals – continuous adaptive spiritual awareness and acuity that when realized will clearly discern the functions, causes and conditions of…

The nature of reality – the singular gradient, the great emptiness, the universe, life and its phenomenal and noumenal manifestations.

clearly seeing emptiness of the five elements of humanity, thus completely penetrating and understanding - relieving stress, misfortune and pain. The great being found instead that the “sufferer” was actually five composites or symbiotic parts/elements/aggregates/components that constitute the human body and condition. Upon discerning the five composites that make up a person, self or “I” it then discerned/saw/penetrated these five elements or parts, and found they were as follows:

1. Form /matter
2. Feelings /sensations
3. Perceptions/recognition
4. Mental formations - thoughts/volitional activities
5. Consciousness/response

The “Great being” utilized the “the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality” or sitting/zazen/chan/dhyna to penetrate and became one with and investigate these five composites intimately, objectively discerning that these elements are “empty of a individual self” without individual permanence, without independence of the universe and its natural laws – it discerned that they are just constructs and mechanisms responding to various stimuli - not a true singular entity independent of the world/universe or a true singular self at all, but rather that each human composite is doing its own unique thing interdependent or interbeing/interexisting with other human elements to help “paint the picture of our life as a whole” the great being discerned that no single element can exist alone by itself and be called a self or human being – it can only “interplay/interbe/interexist” with the other elements in order for us to be human.

It was discerned that each composite/component is “empty” of a separate singularly abiding “self” or something not dependant on and separate from the rest of creation – these five elements apprehend, convey and allow the other elements of the phenomenal universe to be experienced and realized by the “the great compassionate awakened being” which is distinct but not separate from the five elements that constitute a human being – all are just degrees of the singular gradient experiencing itself, the great void, the emptiness that we are all manifested from and in - it is the universe, it is your life - it is my life - it is all life.

Once the five composites and their natures have been penetrated and entered into, realized and actualized then true understanding can be gleaned, and the great compassion is manifest in all our comings and goings. Once we enter the element(s) we enter into non-duality or “oneness” with them – the true nature of existence.

Upon penetration, entering and realizing for oneself, we are no longer are watching these composites from the outside at a distance, but being one with it and its fundamental processes, giving us the opportunity to discern/realize and intimately understand that there is no abiding self in these elements – vision become images; smells, textures and taste become sensations; thoughts become information and options, all just varying perspectives of the one singular gradient – once you emulate the great being and look deeply within your mind/self, becoming one with your elements then their true and pure function will reveal themselves and suffering and pain will be without negative connotations and power in life.

Oh Seeker, form is no other than emptiness, emptiness no other than form.
for example... form = ice, snow, clouds, mist, fog, dew, rain, rivers, oceans even a wave, monsoon or tsunami – emptiness is the water within all of them, basic and fundamental to all of them yet very different in form and function - a very simple example but profound and very powerful once fully grasped, penetrated and realized as our life, the world, the universe and all things, and existence.

“Form is exactly emptiness, emptiness is exactly form” - Because water exists its other forms are possible and verifiable because its other forms exist water is possible and verifiable. They cannot exist without each other because they are each other. Sensation, conception, discrimination, awareness are likewise like this - because one exists everything else exists, it is the intrinsic nature of the singular gradient/universe/life.

Oh beloved Seeker, all phenomenon are forms of emptiness; - All phenomenon or things; earth, air, water, fire, light, birds, sunshine, cars, houses my body your body have the great emptiness as there true nature and vital essence– everything manifested from matter and energy is intrinsically “empty” at its heart/center – because of this great emptiness things/phenomenon can arise, be and pass away… the stuff of phenomenon still is… not born or destroyed, just is - forever continuously continuing before and beyond our concept of space, time and things… this is our true intrinsic nature the true intrinsic nature of the universe/singular gradient/life.

not born, not destroyed, - To be born means to come into existence from nothing, while to be destroyed means to past from existence to nothing – this statement at face value seems black and white in its statement of fact, but is not truth – according to human facts a bumble bee cannot fly… human facts cannot explain electricity yet we depend on it for our quality of life - facts shut out the reality of transcendental truth.

Lets take a journey into the idea of birth and death in regards to the life and death of a human person and body; lets say a person is born on September 1, 2000 and dies September1, 2100 pretty straight forward and factually possible but for one thing, in the transcendental truth of existence and emptiness it is a non-truth, in universal truth the person existed for nine months in the womb of its mother, and before that, partly in their father partly in there mother, and before that in their grandparents and so on as sperm and egg. Sperm and egg made up of the elements of earth, water, fire and air.

The physical body of the individual and its parents and ancestors were never born or destroyed, just in perpetual continuous continuation, migrating through the varying frequencies/vibrations/stages of the singular gradient – the body that has “died” continues, the personality, consciousness and sense of individuality that was the effect of causes and conditions during 9/01/2000 and ended 9/101/2100 has ceased its “cloud existence” but its activity during its “life” still creates causes, conditions and effects when it “rained or did not rain”, thus setting into motion subtle and overt change in its environment long after its dissolution as a cloud – subtly and grossly affecting the universe like a ripple in a pond after a pebble is tossed in… making changes seen and unseen until it eventually reaches and affects all parts of the pond/universe.

Once the physical body dissolves into its basic elements and then reformed into new and various forms… some times another human body or bodies, sometimes as a cloud(s), sometimes as a plant(s)… some times as all of them, within the same continuing continuation that it was “born” from. As water is formed and shaped into its varying forms of rain, clouds, waves, ice etc… a cloud is “born” from water and “dies” as water, in between it is a cloud with cloud properties and functions different from water yet made up of water – so in reality it was not born nor was it destroyed… it just continues in its permanent impermanence migrating through the frequencies of the singular gradient functioning within its present manifestation without hindrance of being water or not being water, content in its form and function - forms and functions that are empty of a permanent abiding “self” that is not destroyed nor born… this is not conjecture or mystical spiritual propaganda or philosophy – it is science, it is our life and existence.

not stained/defiled, not pure/immaculate, - Dirty or clean, stained or pure, good and bad, immaculate or defiled these concepts/labels are formed in the discursive mind to help us categorize reality into perceivable conditioned beneficial or detrimental perceptions relative to our life and our being – but the great emptiness is not positive or negative nor is it not “not negative or positive”, it contains both relative to conditions, perception and relativity.

Conditionally relative to existence, positive is a negative and negative is a positive, and positive is positive and negative is negative depending on perspective and position - they are always in effect revolving around and connected to each other - both occupying the same space and time within space and time (liken to the foot before and after when walking) - as long as there is life (life’s definition fundamentally is movement and change). Depending on perspective and scope of view, these polarities are present in everything – endeavor to penetrate them both and see that they are but aspects of one singular process.

To deny the “bad” and to support the “good” purely out of the definition given to them by mental conditioning/mental aversion and attraction is to invite unneeded suffering and discontentment because you are just seeing half of the whole. Seek out that which enables positive and negative to be, to exist in the same space and time - once found and entered into all will be clear. Emptiness is not dependant on these polarities in the context of aversion and attraction, gain or loss, because it is fundamentally empty at its heart – without an abiding self to judge the process. Emptiness supports all things, it is neither stained nor pure… nor is it not stained or not pure - emptiness manifests functions and conditions as context and situations dictates.

Water in the absence of fire/heat/molecular vibration becomes ice, water in the presence of fire/heat/molecular vibration becomes vapor/steam – from the outside looking at this process it is just a process, but if you could put yourself in the place of water and give it your personality and conditioned discursive mind, it might dread the application of fire or the withdrawal of heat, stressing about the natural process that initiates change to facilitate life, but resonating with emptiness no matter what form and conditions prevail one realizes your essence is still water and all is as it should be.

Positive and negative are just two sides of a coin and that coin is emptiness... what would life be if you resonated with the coin-ness? hmmm..... Fire in general is feared by most beings, but on its most minute and intimate scale it is the engine of our life – its essence in our bodies internally and externally manifests heat to sustain bodily functions and life – but conditions and causes can align the same “fire essence” to “harm” by excessive internal fever, or harm by external burning. Whether it is bad or good its general essence is the same – to generate heat by exciting/vibrating molecules. Its duality comes in to play when we utilize their functions based on our life experience with them and realization of their essence and functions.

Food can be equated with purity, immaculateness and goodness; it is tasty, nourishing and satisfying - its opposite is garbage, and can be equated with stained, defilement and badness; it is foul, useless and disgusting if we looking from the outside – on the surface this is all “true”, but once you penetrate it as “the great compassionate awakened being that hears, sees and feels the suffering of the world” and utilize “the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality” you will see that the hot delicious food sitting on your plate if not finished will be rotting foul smelling garbage in a few days – but you do not need to wait a week to see the garbage in the food, if you penetrate the label of food and its manifestation on your plate with insight, awareness and attention you can see it right there on your plate. Foul smelling garbage, the left over food/organic matter is returned to the soil, decomposes into its base elements and nutrients enriching the earth – seeds are planted in it and weeks later fresh succulent vegetables, fruits, grains etc… livestock are sustained from the fruit of the earth, humans pick, harvest and prepare them, and behold wonderful tasty delicious food appears on your plate.

Garbage and food are interdependent/interare/interexists, garbage is food and food is garbage plain and simple they are interbeing – interdependent on their mutual existence, they depend on each other for their functions and purpose… they are empty, not stained/defiled, not pure/immaculate. with out loss/decreasing, without gain/increasing.

There is much overt and covert worry, stress and suffering associated with death/decreasing or loss of your body and conscious existence in life… yet we “die” every night when we sleep… We think that our present form as humans are the pinnacle of existence, we elevate the self/”I” and body above all else in the world even other human forms as if this human form – this “skin bag/meat suit” is superior to all other human forms, separating the self from the world and universe and not penetrating things, truly investigating and understanding the conditions and elements of being human to realize that we are the world and the universe and they are us.

What is this human form, this “skin bag/meat suit/water sack” we call our immediate home anyway? Science tells us we are 65% water, and the rest minerals that are in a constant state of flux and change – a body never exactly the same from moment to moment. When we cease to breathe, the body enters a state of decomposition and dissolution reverting back to its base elements and components; water returns to the air and earth, entering the process of precipitation and evaporation, the minerals return to the soil to nourish the forms of growing things and becoming growing things – essentially the body lives on forever in one form or another. What about our personality, individualism and the choices we make in life? While the elements that constitute the body are in synergy forming and maintaining the human animal, housing the five elements that make us human, their interbeing manifesting our life in the world physically and mentally – we make choices manifesting mental, spiritual and physical actions effecting change in our life, others life and the world which supports life.

While we are alive our choices and actions set up a chain of reactions and effects, events and conditions that ripple across time and space long after the body is in dissolution and our consciousness is no more – fundamentally, universally our bodies live on in other things and conditions perpetually as long as the universe is.

The moon is constantly the moon in any of its phases no matter what your relative position – whether it is full, quarter, harvest, a sliver etc… neither increasing nor decreasing - that is the fundamental realness to the moon, everything else is perception and consciousness operating from the realization of only a few of its human elements, not the whole compliment of mental and spiritual tools available to us as a human being if we use “the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality” - sitting meditation and introspection.

This understanding/realization is what part of what we endeavor to reveal, practice and utilize in sitting meditation. The apparent relative phases of the moon are like the relative phases of human mind – when all is said and done the moon is still the unchanging moon no matter what we name the condition/phase we view it in, and phenomena are just phenomena – empty no matter what we name the condition/phase it is in – our perceptions are relative and without tangible substance while the universe remains constant and unchanging in its tangible fundamental emptiness, manifesting things as conditions rise and pass away.

So in emptiness there is no form; no sensation, conception, discrimination, awareness; - The great being restates the heart of this teaching that the five composites that make up the human condition are empty of a separate abiding self that is self sufficient from the universe;

1. Matter -Earth, Air, Fire, Water.
2. Sensations - Pleasant, un-pleasant, visible forms, sounds, odor, taste, tangible objects, mind-objects/thoughts/ideas – all physical and mental impressions/feelings.
3. Perceptions - Conditioned recognition of objects mental or physical.
4. Mental formations - All voluntary/volitional actions or activities (good, bad or indifferent).
Volition is mental construction/mental activity directing the mind to manifest action of body within space and time – thus initiating causes to affect changes.
5. Consciousness - A recognition/response to/awareness of life through one or all the sense faculties of the body and mind. For example, mental “consciousness” has the mind as its “viewfinder” and a mental idea or thought as its “object or subject” of its function.

These five elements/composites/aggregrates are all empty of a separate abiding self that is apart from the “Singular gradient-Universe-the world-life-This”

no eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind; -The eighteen sub-elements of the five composites elements are also empty of a separate abiding self. First are the six sense organs:

1. Eyes – physical structure that gathers light vibration.
2. Ears – physical structure that gathers sound vibration.3. Nose – physical structure that gathers smell vibration.
4. Tongue – physical structure that gathers flavor vibration.
5. Body – physical structure that gathers tactile sensory vibration.
6. Mind – physical structure that manifests consciousness processes “vibrations” of the moment from/through the previous five.

no color, sound, smell, taste, touch, phenomena;

Secondly the six objects of the six sense organs:

1. Form (eye)– shapes, visual textures, light and dark, colors etc…
2. Sound (ear)– vibration of the air produced by movement/oscillation associated with the ear.
3. Smell (nose) - air borne molecules of different molecular compositions associated with the nose 4. Taste (tongue) – chemical interactions of molecules producing a range of stimuli associated with the tongue.
5. Touch (skin)– tactile interactions with things/objects producing feeling associated with the skin.
6. Thoughts – intellectual processing of the previous five in context with past conditioning reflecting on the past moment(s).

no realm of sight, no realm of consciousness, -Thirdly, the interaction of the sense organs with their specific sense objects manifests the six consciousnesses:

1. Sight – Continuous sensory apprehension by the eyeballs of vibration based light reflected from objects and things within space and time of the immediate moment.
2. Hearing – Continuous sensory apprehension by the ear of vibration based sound generated by objects and things within space and time of the immediate moment.
3. Smelling – Continuous sensory apprehension by the nose of airborne molecules/particles by the “gassing” of objects or things within space and time of the immediate moment.
4. Tasting – Continuous sensory apprehension by the tongue of airborne and tactile particles/molecules generated by things or objects within space and time of the immediate moment.
5. Touching – Continuous sensory apprehension of tactile stimuli generated by contact with things and objects within space and time of the immediate moment.
6. Thinking – Continuous sensory apprehension and comparative processing of the previous five realms, past information, facts and opinions juxtaposed to things within space and time of the immediate moment.

No one of these eighteen can exist separately by itself without the other – they are all interdependent on each other to be your perspective on the world and your life, they can only “inter-be/inter-exist”; in truth and reflecting the non-duality of reality, they are not separately cooperating with each other… they are each other.

no ignorance and no end to ignorance, no old age and death and no end to old age and death, -To realize this statement made by the “The great compassionate awakened being” we should investigate it for ourselves based on the information given. The statement “no ignorance and no end to ignorance, no old age and death and no end to old age and death” reflects the seeing into the conditioned, relative and interdependent nature of reality and our lives, this is called the teaching of independent origins or conditioned genesis - it is as follows:

1. This is because that is.
2. This arises because that arises.
3. This is not because that is not.
4. This ceases because that ceases.

This statement of conditioned genesis proposes to clarify the conditioned, relative and interdependent nature of life and its perpetual continuation by the realm of dissolution or death. There are twelve originating factors to the human being/condition that are contained within the statement made by the “great being”; they form a spiraling circle of causation that generates causes, affecting change, manifestation or being that in turn causes an affect and change… so on ad infinitum until wisdom, awareness, penetration, understanding and cessation are introduced to the process, thus manifesting realization of the Way of things within the context of our lives – the twelve originating factors or “conditioned genesis” are as follows (ignorance=unenlightned, unrealized/unpenetrated):

1. Ignorance of the nature of reality conditions our choices and actions.
2. Ignorance conditioned choices and actions in turn condition our consciousness.
3. Ignorance conditioned consciousness in turn condition mental and physical phenomena.
4. Mental and physical phenomena condition the eyes, nose, ears, tongue, skin and mind or the six faculties.
5. The eyes, nose, ears, tongue, skin and mind or the six faculties in turn conditions sensory and mental contact.
6. Conditioned sensory and mental contact conditions sensation.
7. Sensation conditions desire/thirst.
8. Desire conditions clinging/attachment.
9. Clinging/attachment conditions the process of becoming and being.
10. Becoming and being conditions birth/gain.
11. Birth conditions decay/loss.
12. Decay conditions death, lamentation, pain, stress, suffering etc…

Generally, this is the arising, existence and continuation of life, as we know it today. The great being states this process is empty and because it is empty none of them can exist by itself, they rely on each other to be. Death is not a separate entity from life and life is not a separate entity from death they are interdependent upon each other, they are each other. To seek to eliminate death will only manifest the elimination of life, to eliminate sadness is to eliminate happiness, to eliminate hate is to negate love – they need each other to be. Individually they have no power over the real way of things on a fundamental level, but they do have the power to manifest stress and suffering when they are taken as absolutes to be pursued in life – until we realize this we are caught in the circle of ignorance, delusion and suffering that blinds us to the continuity of the whole process by accepting one part and denying the other – this is the delusion that generates suffering, separation and pain. Understanding and realizing these processes of the genesis and the potential it holds in our life for delusion or clarity is critical to being contented in life. This process is just a process, we can choose to process true reality with it or process delusion and incomplete views with it – penetrate and understand the process, remove ignorance by being still and contemplate your life and others. This will lead you to the path. This passage states their exists “no ignorance and no end to ignorance” – “no old age and death and no end to old age and death” because they are one and the same. Refrain from uplifting one and suppressing the other, they are and always will be, understanding and ignorance are dependant on each other for them to be, their is ignorance and there is knowledge - realize both are of the same reality, the same “root”.

Why worry, just live when its time to live and die when its time to die, and endeavour not to miss anything inbetween; act accordingly to the circumstances at hand – life is good because there is death… so why not live to the fullest, so it is important to first discern what it means to truly live to the fullest. Pay intimate attention to it all, sadness, happiness, enjoy and appreciate the kind person and the mean person - they both teach, strive to intimately understand both in the context of your life – they all have something to offer, its life, live, learn, be at peace, be giving, be receiving – let life flow through you, hold on to nothing and enjoy everything the moment has to offer "no suffering, no cause of suffering, no extinguishing, no path, no wisdom, and no gain". Even the four noble truths as stated by the great-awakened being “Buddha” itself/himself are likewise empty, and have no separate existence, they too depend on other things and processes to be realized.

The Four noble truths are:

1. The truth of suffering - Stress, discontentment, dis-ease, disharmony, and pain etc… this truth is not an affirmation of negativity juxtaposed to positivity but an objective categorization of an existing condition based in the real that reflects realization of existence, the great emptiness and the true nature of phenomenon. It is a statement of the mental and physical condition of being and doing that does not reflect the fundamental nature and rhythms of the underlying all pervading nature of the universe, and the “suffering” that it manifests when not penetrated with insight and wisdom.
2. The truth of the causation or arising of suffering - The “gate” that leads to all suffering - ignorance of true reality and its interdependence/connectedness, desirous clinging and selfish desire based in and driven by greed, fear, sense pleasures, the pursuit of permanence, etc… It is the indestructible rule of life that this life and world appears/arises by a series of causes and conditions, and everything disappears/passes away by the same rule; everything changes and nothing stays the same but emptiness and change itself. The causes or conditions required for existence of the human being are; food, interaction with the sense organs with the “external world”, consciousness of body mind and environment and mental volition or will to be and become – the volitional will and action to be, exist or to become more than you perceive – elevating the self above all else, discontentment, to accumulate more than is needed is the cause of thearising of suffering. Suffering is rooted in the intense desires of human physical instincts and thirst/desirous clinging in the physical body for the illusions of worldly passions as something desirable to manifest a contented peaceful self/mind, even if it is sometimes death of self or other. Not realizing eternal change and emptiness in everything is fundamentally the initiator/causation/arising of suffering.
3. The truth of the cessation or stopping of suffering – There is liberation and freedom from the cycle of suffering… it is cessation, stopping, and the extinction of desirous clinging/thirst at the root of human passion. This “elimination” of suffering, desirous clinging/thirst is “the peaceful liberation from delusion” – the actualization of the absolute truth of ultimate reality. It is like the “blowing out” of the perpetual flame of desirous clinging/thirst. The detachment from the continuity of hatred, desire and illusion, abandoning and cutting off of desirous clinging/thirst and craving for desirous attachment. Within this cessation the four elements have no home; long and short, big and small, good and evil, forms and names, the apparent and the hidden, this life or another life, coming, going or stillness, death and birth and objects of the senses cannot be established, experienced found or encountered. Ultimately, cessation isthe annihilation of the illusion of the idea of a permanent abiding separate self, and its desirous clinging/thirst in operation and effect in the moment from moment to moment.
4. The truth of the Way leading to the cessation or stopping of suffering – or the Way and Path leading to the realization and actualization of “the peaceful liberation from delusion”.

In order to reside personaly where there is no delusion, desirous clinging/thirst and suffering a way or path must be discerned and embarked upon.

The noble eightfold “Way or Path” can be called right or complete activities. Why eight “fold” and not eight “ways” path? Because there is only interdependence and emptiness to say that there are eight individual ways would me misleading within context of this teaching… there are many paths but only one Way.

If you take a piece of paper and fold it on itself three times you get eight distinct sections separated by seven creases. The sections are all “separate” and slightly different in place and position yet “interdependentlybeing” unified by the content and sameness of the contiguous piece of paper – you can equate the paper with emptiness, and the “interdependentlybeing” of each folded section to define the sheet of paper/emptiness. Each folded section depends on the contiguous piece of paper for its function and qualities, but the paper does not depend on the separate eight folded sections for it to be “a sheet of paper”… it just is – each empty fold/section reflects a portion of the totality of the sheet of paper, taken together they encompass, reveal and manifest the whole sheet of paper.

Emptiness does not need the eightfold path to verify itself… it just is, we need the path to reveal and verify emptiness and its potential in our life - each “fold” of the eightfold path reflects a little of the totality of emptiness, taken together and letting them “interdependently be” they encompass and reveal the whole thing. Most human beings need the structure of the eight interdependent “folds” to enlighten the mind/being to the reality of emptiness and the cessation of suffering.

The eightfold path/way is as follows:

6. Complete or right effort – means to seek out, develop and refine complete and just states of mind and being inherently present in human the mind and condition with an energetic will and intention - to recognize and prevent/modulate self-serving states of mind.

These are the complete or right truths of the noble way/path to the cessation of personal stress/suffering in the moment – this is the goal of the “eightfold path” it is the only thing “the great compassionate awakened being” realized and championed.

No attainment and no gain and thus the great-awakened beings live in the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality with no hindrance in the mind therefore no fear. Far beyond deluded thoughts; this is the peaceful liberation from delusion. All past, present and future enlightened ones live in the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality, and therefore arrive at complete true universal enlightenment.

Our mental hindrances or conditioned ideas and concepts regarding life, birth and death, gain and loss, good and evil, inside outside, me and you and all dualistic thoughts taken as absolute reality are obstacles that reside in our mind and makes our being heavy with false views, assumptions and beliefs. When these thoughts, conditioned views and incomplete knowledge of the singular gradient/universe/life is in conflict with the real nature of things and we cannot reconcile them with our perception of what the world and life should be, fear is manifested – fear that our ideas of life are not being fulfilled or validated. We flail about with a fear filled life trying to make our erroneous views manifest, creating all kinds of dis-harmony, havoc, pain and suffering in our life and by extension the world of other and self - this fear is the perception that initiates all manner of suffering and stress in the world. Fear because the world and things are not operating as you wish them to in regards to your view of the nature of things, the interdependence of things, the oneness of things and that all is as it should be according to your actions and position in the continuum that is life. When the cloud realizes that it is just water in its essence and its cloud form is transitory, with its own unique functions and position in the way of things - functions and positions that support the Way of things so the Way may support its cloudness - once this is realized and operates in every moment within space and time, birth and death is transcended and transformed from gain and loss to “Thusness” or the continuing continuation of just “This”… the singular gradient realized and manifested in perceptions, thoughts and actions - fear is transcended, non-fear is present in the moment and life is no longer subject to the notion of birth and death reflecting a position and being that is… Far beyond deluded thoughts; this is the peaceful liberation from delusion… or life as “Thus-ness” in action.

Therefore know the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality is the great mantra/invocation/incantation, the vivid mantra/invocation/incantation, the best mantra/invocation/incantation, the unsurpassable mantra/invocation/incantation.It completely destroys and clears all pain. This is the incorruptible truth, not a lie. So set forth the great flowing vital essence of perfect penetrating insight and understanding that reveals the nature of reality mantra/invocation/incantation set forth this mantra/invocation/incantation, and utter, Gone! Gone! Gone all the way over! All beings gone to the other side! Enlightenment outstanding/yay/halelujah! When the Prajna paramita heart sutra/teaching is penetrated into and realized with the mind, and manifested with the body and maintained by the clarified and freed spirit – we then discover a place of refuge and power to live our life from, a place to shelter ourselves from the confusion and suffering of mind and body. This refuge enables us to live a life of fullness and contentment for our selves and others that we share life with in this world.

Sitting meditation and the studying and realization of the Prajna paramita heart sutra/teaching both point to an identical being that is available to all for the contentment in life and the cessation of suffering in the moment, from moment to moment if realized and practiced diligently. Upon seeing the great truth, the impermanence of suffering and its cessation in the moment - the great awakened being uttered a statement that condensed the whole teaching into a spoken tool to help us access and manifest the power of the realized teaching in the moment – it is called a mantra/invocation/incantation. Once we glimpse, manifest and practice the teaching we use the mantra as a device, tool or vehicle to enable our accessing the power of the heart sutra in the moment – allowing us to immediately ground and center ourselves in the teaching/realization.

The mantra is “Gate Gate paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Svaha” - I will attempt to translate and clarify the mantra, bringing it in resonance with our language and culture of today… What is a mantra? Invocation? Incantation?

Mantra – Sacred council, mystical formula, vocal invocation or incantation. Invocation – The vocal act or process of petitioning for help or support. Calling upon for authority or justification. A formula for conjuring: incantation. An act of moral implementation. To put in to effect or operation: implement. Bring about, cause. Prayer or entreaty. An earnest request.

Incantation - A written or recited formula of words or word designed to produce/induce a particular effect/state. Utterance.

All that has been touched on here is not absolute in each of its specific offerings, they are all empty and have no permanent substance, just perpetual interdependence on the different facets of the teaching to manifest the realization of the end of and stopping of personal stress and mental suffering within the moment, when this is diligently practiced and realized by every individual in the world we will be in harmony and peaceful extinction of delusion as a community. Because this teaching is empty, without any abiding permanence of its own - it is the Way and the true nature of reality
